September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Rec

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour the children who never returned home, the survivors of residential schools, their families and communities; and a day to reflect on the on-going, intergenerational impacts of residential schools.

It is also Orange Shirt Day, an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”. The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations.

In observance of this day, our office will be closed to take the opportunity to pay our respects to those who have been and who continue to be effected.
